About & Contact
Static Zine is run by editor Jessica Lewis and managing editors Aviva Cohen and Melody Lamb out of Toronto, Ontario. The DIY magazine is a collective of storytellers from all over the city, whether they are writers, illustrators, photographers and/or musicians. Each issue is made in a cut-and-paste style, with the writer getting the option to do the layout for their own page at Static Headquarters, so everyone comes together to work on it. It’s a fun thing to do together and give back to the city.
The zine is released three times a year. Issue 1 was a city guide, released for the North by Northeast festival in June 2011 and Issue 2 was themed to first times in Toronto, released for the Canzine festival in October 2011. Issue 3 is called The Story of Our Lives, and was released in March 2012 in time for Canadian Music Week.
Issues can be found around the city after release in places such as Sonic Boom, Soundscapes, Rotate This, Sky Blue Sky, Snakes and Lattes, Big Fat Burrito, Saving Gigi’s, The Only Cafe and more. Let us know anywhere you’d like us to drop them off at!
We are always on the lookout for pitches to an upcoming issue or the blog. Specific directions for the print issues will always be posted when needed, but the blog is pretty open to Toronto contributions of stories and photography about the city. Static Zine currently does not accept pitches of music to review.
